Having a hair implant can be a life changing process (so it should be carefully thought-out) as you are undergoing a major form of hair loss treatment to replace the lost hair on your scalp. But how can you prepare for such an important procedure?

Check Your Scalp for any Diseases

If you suffer from any scalp diseases such as Alopecia then hair loss treatments will not solve this problem. In fact, it can actually make the situation worse, as your supply of hair is unhealthy to use and to replace the lost hair on your scalp.

Don’t Smoke

It is wise to avoid smoking for at least 24 hours before the day of the surgery. Smoking can make the wounds on your scalp heal a lot slower and can also delay the entire recovery process. If you can stop smoking prior to surgery, it can make it a lot easier for you to prepare for your transplant.

Don’t Drink

Cut out alcohol at least three 3 days before surgery, this is due to the fact that alcohol makes you more likely to lose blood during surgical procedures.

Avoid Having a Hair Cut

Believe it or not, you should avoid having a haircut prior to the procedure. It’s vital to let the area of donation to grow, so there’s enough room for the transplant to take place. Also, it will cover the stitches following your transplant.

Massage Your Scalp

A great way to prepare yourself for a hair transplant is to massage your scalp at least 2 weeks prior to your surgery. Try to do this for at least 10 minutes per day, it will help smooth the skin and can improve your skin tone. Improved blood circulation in your scalp is also a result of you massaging your scalp regularly.

Stop Taking Supplements

You should try to avoid taking supplements such as multi-vitamin & herbal supplements such as Gingko Biloba at least 2 weeks before treatment.

Avoid Taking Certain Forms of Medication

Your surgeon will give you list of medication that you should take prior to treatment, anti-depressants and drugs that effect the circulation of blood are all to be avoided.
