It’s exactly 3 weeks until we wake up on Christmas day, and we’re willing to bet that the majority of you have been neglecting you hair care in the run up to the festive period.
As Christmas is the party season, many people will want to show off their luscious locks at their work parties and nights out, and there’s no better time than the New Year to pledge that you will care for your hair more in 2016.
So, how can we care for our hair during the colder winter months? As a leading hair clinic in Manchester, here are our winter hair care dos and don’ts!
Do: Trim Your Hair Regularly
During winter, the air gets quite dry which can damage your hair, especially if your hair isn’t in great condition to begin with.
Ensure your hairs health by committing to a light trim every 6 to 8 weeks to get rid of any split ends or damage that have occurred. It will also look less straggly and become much more sleek and defined- perfect for going to minimal effort for those Christmas parties!
Don’t: Wash Your Hair Too Often
As we’ve just mentioned, winter air is generally quite dry and can severely damage your hair. Believe it or not, every time you wash your hair, you are stripping moisture from the hair strands.
Try to avoid washing your hair every single day to preserve moisture in it and prevent it from becoming dry, brittle and unmanageable. It’s also advised that you ensure that your hair is completely dry before you leave the house and head out into the cold weather to avoid making your hair brittle.
Try limiting your hair washes to 2-3 times a week.
Do: Protect Your Head and Hair
You probably don’t need an excuse to pull on a warm hat during the cold winter months, but did you know that as well as keeping you warmer, wearing a hat can also damage your hair by creating some extremely tangled knots in your hair which are near impossible to brush out?
It is important to protect your head and hair from the elements, so we would suggest investing in a soft scarf that can be put over your head. Not only will this keep heat from escaping from your head, but will reduce the friction that your hair will be subjected to, avoiding those horrendous knots which take hours to brush out.
With the additional drying heat that your hair will be experiencing thanks to everyone turning up their heating in their home, it is important to make sure that you are giving your hair the care and attention that it needs.
